Every year CNET TV publishes blooper reels of all of our on-air personalities. While I am certainly not opposed to airing my foibles, as evidenced here and here, I am a little reluctant. I am always so afraid of being inappropriate but more often that not, I err on the side of authenticity. For better or for worse.
The CNET TV blooper reels started rolling in last week. First came Tom Merritt’s, then Molly Wood’s, Brian Cooley’s, and finally Brian Tong’s. I was afraid to see mine. You should be too. There is some really bad singing going down here. See for yourself:
While I am laid bare, I might as well admit that this blooper reel came at a time when I really needed to smile. I have made no secret of the fact that this has been a rough year. That is why I am grateful for this uncensored look at myself where I realize how much fun I’ve had this year. So what if I spent my Saturday night reading, doing my taxes, and watching You’ve Got Mail on Oxygen? That is probably how I’ll spend my Christmas given that I have to work on the Early Show and therefore won’t be going home to San Francisco for the holidays. I will ask Santa for a more social life in 2009. That and maybe a hairdresser in New York. My hair is really quite ridiculous.

natali, based on seeing you on Red Eye, I’ve become a big fan. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad year, but I can attest that you come across very well on-air. And if I still lived in Manhattan I’d try to improve your social life too… although what help an elderly math geek would be is less than clear.

Thanks for sharing this…I have absolutely loved your show and really appreciate all of the hard work you put in to it..you look wonderful and your hair is fantastic. I watch as many of the major tech news podcasts as my life as a physician allows and yours stands out far above the others for content! Don’t worry… your social life will fix itself when you least expect it(that is what happened to me) so if you enjoy your work try not worry, just keep at it!!

It is refreshing to see the humanness of you and the others. Sure brought a smile here.

Natali, I don’t have the best life, but watching you on CNET. You bring a little light into my life.
December 8, 2008 at 11:16 pm
The end of the tunnel, a shining light is just around the corner. Wish you a happy holiday and a better and fruitful year 2009! I’ve been following Loaded ever since I got hooked on it way back. Now with the HD format, even better! Keep up the good work =)
Best wishes – Kelvin

December 8, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Hey, just read your latest post. I really enjoy listening to you on BOL and of course Loaded. I’m a software developer/tech but always seem to learn something new from you guys. Also just wanted to say, I’ve also had a bad year, my father was diagnosed with an incurable cancer late last year, as a result, my social life has diminished also.
But I’ll be hoping for us both in the new year, good luck and keep up the great work, as Pat Hale says, you look fantastic.

Mama,
I’m glad you’ve got something to make yourself laugh because we all need to laugh at ourselves every now and then. I always feel so bad when I hear about how hard it’s been for you in NYC over this past year. God knows, being so far from friends and family makes things all the harder for people. I discovered the same when I moved from DC (after living there 5 years) to Madison, WI. I lived there for 2 years while all my friends/family were back out on the east coast (NY and DC) so I was all alone out there. But as I came to realize, everything happens for a reason and makes us the people we are today. If I didn’t move out to WI, then I wouldn’t be back in NYC right now and happy personally. I’m sure that this NY adventure will lead to much brighter and happier circumstances than what you are even having right now! And don’t sweat X-mas on your own. I did New Year’s solo in Madison and the holidays pass quicker than you’d imagine.
If you’re feeling lonely/bored/confused/etc. this week, there’s a Twitter meet-up at Negril Village, 70 W. 3rd St. on Thursday 12/11. Keep your head up chica!

Seeing this was such a nice change from your normal straight-laced self on Loaded! As far as your hair goes, maybe you should hire the Red Eye stylist to be your very own…
December 9, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Yeap, you have problems with your hair. Sorry to hear the fact that you are not going to San Francisco, have a warm pre-christmas hug from Mexico.

All the best in 09 Natali. I think we have all gone through that social/non-social anxiety the first year away from family and friends.

Natali; I can’t imagine you being sad, knowing the happiness that you bring to us. Clearly, the problem is trying to fit soooo much into 24 hour days, and not having someone to brush your hair for extended periods of time. That’s relaxation and then some. Find him? Hang on…
Your mind seems to be such a busy place. Take Great Care. You are special!
